Security Camera Offline — What to Do

Quick troubleshooting steps when one or more security cameras stop streaming to your NVR.

Check Physical Connections

Verify the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the camera and the PoE switch. A loose connection is the most common cause of camera drops. If the camera is on a ceiling mount, the cable may have been pulled during maintenance.

Verify PoE Power

Check the PoE switch — most have LEDs indicating power delivery per port. If the LED is off for that port, try a different port. If no ports deliver power, the switch may have exceeded its PoE budget.

Restart the Camera

Unplug the Ethernet cable from the camera for 10 seconds, then reconnect. The camera will reboot and should re-register with the NVR within 1-2 minutes. Check the NVR interface to see if the stream returns.

When to Call Support

If multiple cameras drop simultaneously, this likely indicates a switch or network issue rather than individual camera failure. Submit a ticket with the number of affected cameras and the switch location.
